This has been a gratifying transition from Traineeship Manager to PIANC Mentor and challenging at the same time during the COVID travel restrictions.
Akuna Dredging Solutions engaged into a partnership agreement with Anthony D. Bates Partnership from the UK to promote each others services and increase the knowledge base for our Clients.
During this conference, held from the 2nd till the 5th August 2016 in Singapore, Akuna Dredging Solutions presented a paper on three subjects: Small-scale Dredging projects in SEA, Brisbane Airport – New Parallel Runway Project and the Dispute Avoidance Board at the NPR Project.
Akuna Dredging Solutions conducted, together with Juan Pablo Pérez Pérez, Head of Projects and Works Division of the Port of Algeciras in Spain, a workshop about Aspects of Dredging, Preparation and Execution.
Akuna Dredging Solutions also participated in the Panel of Experts which discussed the topic of Practical Approaches for Reducing Emission from Dredging Equipment , and Chaired the proceedings during the second day of the Conference.
During this conference, held from the 18 till the 20 August 2015, Akuna Dredging Solutions facilitated an interactive workshop on the topic: Best Practice Tendering, Negotiation and Execution of Dredging, with more detailed subjects discussed as requested by the participant during the workshop.
During this conference, held from the 19th till the 22nd May 2015 in Singapore, Akuna Dredging Solutions presented a paper on Key Benefits of Early Contractor Involvement for Dredging Projects.
Akuna Dredging Solutions also participated in the Panel of Experts which discussed the topic of Keeping Your Dredging Project on Schedule & Budget – Key Processes & Tips , with a variety of subjects discussed during this session.
During this conference, held on the 26th and 27th August 2014, Akuna Dredging Solutions presented an extended paper on Early Contractor Involvement for Dredging Projects , due to the positive response to the paper during last year’s presentation.
Akuna Dredging Solutions also facilitated an interactive workshop with the topic: Managing the Contractual Aspects of Dredging through Best Practice Tendering, Negotiation and Execution , with different subjects highlighted during this year’s workshop.

The Dispute Resolution Board principle was conceived in the USA in the mid 1960s as a result of the high level of contract litigations.
The Australasian Chapter, known as Dispute Resolution Board Australasia (DRBA) commenced in 2003.
There are 35 contracts within Australia and New Zealand with a functioning DRB and since 2003 all disputes have been resolved through the DRB process.
The role of the DRB has lately progressed from a reactive mediation and expert resolution determination process to a genuinely proactive dispute prevention and avoidance process and operates under the name DAB (Dispute Avoidance Board).
The Brisbane Airport Corporation has decided to incorporate the dispute avoidance and resolution process through the establishment and the operation of a Dispute Avoidance Board to assist in avoiding and resolving Disputes at their New Parallel Runway Project entered into on 3rd October 2013.
Together with Ken Casley and Ric Barton, Jack HC Kerklaan forms the Dispute Avoidance Board at the BAC New Parallel Runway Project.

During this conference, held on the 25th and 26th September 2013, Akuna Dredging Solutions facilitated an interactive workshop together with Kinlan Consulting with the topic: Managing the Contractual Aspects of Dredging through Best Practice Tendering, Negotiation and Execution.
Akuna Dredging Solutions also presented a paper on Early Contractor Involvement for Dredging Projects.
The recent improvements in data gathering, processing and display has made the Resistivity Survey a valuable complimentary tool for high definition geophysical site investigations at dredging and reclamation projects.
Akuna Dredging Solutions can assist and advice in respect of these site investigations.
During this conference, held on the 25th and 26th September 2012, Akuna Dredging Solutions facilitated an interactive roundtable discussion with the topic: Reviewing the Advantages and Disadvantages of Various Contractor Methodologies. Akuna Dredging Solutions also conducted a workshop with the topic: Managing the Commercial Aspects of Dredging and Reclamation Projects.
The goal of the roundtable session was to discuss and share ideas as well as insights about contracts, methodologies, environmental impact, dredge management plans, equipment and execution/operations.
The workshop focussed on the commercial aspects with the following items reviewed and explained: choice of form of contract, sources of knowledge, the FAIR principles, risk management, main risks, contractual risks, document preparation and contract choices, latent conditions, the scope and nature of the works with their uncertainties.
During this conference, held on the 21st and 22nd March 2012, Akuna Dredging Solutions conducted a workshop with the topic: Understanding the Full Capital Dredging Process from Initiating the Project through to Delivery.
The following phases of the process were reviewed:
Preparation phase of which the key ingredients of initiation, study, design, site investigation, environmental considerations, permit process, tender and contract were discussed.
The Tender phase with the contractor selection, proposal evaluation, negotiations, optimisations and contract documents were reviewed.
The topics of the Execution phase discussed were preparation and mobilisation, resource deployment and performance, contractual disputes and project hand-over.
During this conference, held on the 26th and 27th July 2011, Akuna Dredging Solutions facilitated a roundtable discussion with the topic: Understanding the Broad Environmental Challenges Faced with Dredging to Prevent Negative Impact on the Environment.
After the statements “Dredging activities will always make changes to the environment” and “Although dredging is executed to improve a given situation, awareness of the repercussions of the changes is essential”, the broad environmental challenges, the various interest groups, the material relocation methods, the site characteristics and the dredging options were highlighted.
